The Maryland State Poker Championship continues at Live! Casino and Hotel Maryland, with Day 1a of the $2,200 Main Event taking place at 11:15 a.m. local time. The PokerStars sponsored tournament will feature a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool, with two Day 1 flights over two days.
Players who advance from each flight will then combine and return for Day 2 on Sunday, August 11, where they will play down to the final six players. Play will then conclude on Monday August 12 where the final six players will play until a champion is crowned.
Last year's tournament saw 172 total entries, with Isiah Ditoto taking the top prize worth $221,853.

Players will begin each starting flight with 40,000 in chips and blinds will begin at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. Blinds will increase every 40 minutes on Day 1, and every 60 minutes on Day 2. Play for Day 1 flights will conclude once 12.5% of the field remains, and those who bag will be in the money for Day 2.
Late registration and reentries are permitted through level 12, with 15-minute breaks taking place every three levels. Unlimited re-entries are allowed, and players may play both Day 1 flights in an attempt to increase their chip counts. Should a player choose to play multiple Day 1 flights, only the highest qualifying stack will be permitted to continue to Day 2, and they will receive a min-cash for their other qualifying stack.

The winner of the Main Event, in addition to their cash prize, will win a PokerStars NAPT Gold Pass. The Gold Pass is valued at $10,000 and includes a $5,300 NAPT Las Vegas Main Event buy-in, a seven-night stay at Resorts World Las Vegas, and $1,800 for travel expenses.

Dominic Lake raised to 300 from the cutoff before Joseph Cashen three-bet to 800 from the button. After the blinds folded, Lake made the call to see a flop.
Lake then check-called a bet of 1,000 from Cashen after the 10♥Q♥2♣ flop.
After the 3♠ on the turn, Lake again check-called a bet of 1,500 from Cashen.
The river was the 5♥ and Lake then led out for a bet 6,400, which got a quick fold from Cashen, to give the pot to Lake.

Timothy Little raised to 400 from under the gun, the player in the cutoff called, and John Baxter defended in the big blind.
The flop came 8♠8♦7♦, Baxter checked, Little bet 700, the cutoff folded, and Baxter called.
On the 4♣ turn, Baxter check-folded to a bet of 1,800 from Little and the pot was pushed Little's way.

Scott Latshaw limped in from the hijack, as did Scott Latshaw in the cutoff. When it folded to the small blind Brandon Mueller, he raised to 400. Latshaw made the call, and Cucina folded.
After the 8♥J♥4♦ flop, Mueller check-called a bet of 1,000 from Latshaw.
The turn was the 9♦ and Mueller checked to Latshaw, who again bet 1,000. Mueller then raised to 2,500 which got Latshaw to muck his hand and give the pot to Mueller.
After the hand Mueller tabled 8x8x for a set of eights.
